LONDON TILBURY AND SOUTHEND RAILWAY.

In conjunction with RADLEY MODELS at www.radleymodels.com and SILVER FOX we have produced 3 types of LT & SR coaches pictured here . The Bo-Bo electric locomotive is available as per its seperate listing in kit form or rtr.

The Coaches ran under steam power from Southend-on-Sea to Barking where the locomotive was replaced by two Bo-Bo locomotives which took the 8 coach train onto Ealing. The coaches were built in 1910 and had a Brake Third at either end with a mixture of Composite Coaches and all Thirds in its make up to an eight coach train.

• Please note that the unpowered bogie has slots built in so that it can be easily converted into a pick up bogie.

The coaches shown are in the original teak livery but were absorbed into the Midland Railway which in turn became the LMS. In 1942 they went to the Shropshire & Montgomery Light Railway which was run by the WD and they survived in a new livery of Olive Green until 1959.

THE COMPOSITE COACH INTERIOR (above) HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM THE PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICE AT KEW PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORDS. THE COACH IS SHOWN IN TEAK LIVERY PAINTED BY PHILLIP WOODS FOR WHICH WE THANK HIM FOR THE TROUBLE HE HAS TAKEN. THE DRAWINGS WERE KINDLY PROVIDED BY LONDON UNDERGROUND RAILWAY SOCIETY AND FURTHER INFORMATION WAS SUPPLIED BY FRIS FRISWELL THE MODELLING SECRETARY OF THE LURS. AND PETER WILDE OF HMRS AND WE ARE ARE INDEBTED TO THEM.

THE BRAKE THIRD INTERIOR (above) WAS ALSO SOURCED FROM THE PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICE AT KEW. THE COACH WAS PAINTED IN TEAK BY PHILLIP WOODS AND IS SHOWN WITH THE BUILT IN TAIL LAMPS WITH THE CORRIDOR CONNECTOR AT THE GUARDS BRAKE END THIS ALLOWED FOR THE GUARD TO GET OUT OF THE TRAIN ONTO THE PLATFORM WHEN THE MAJORITY OF THE COACH WAS OUTSIDE THE PLATFORM AND ALL PASSENGERS IN THE END WOULD EXIT VIA THE GUARDS END DOORWAY.
