GOLDEN ARROW CONTAINER WAGON AND CONTAINERS.

We have produced for sale in the near future a kit containing 4 containers for sale separately from the wagon that carries them which will also be available as a kit. The wagon is a Conflat to Diagram 1383 and the Southern Railway built 150 of them in 1931/3 and in 1950 two were used for the service to carry containers from Victoria to Dover on the Golden Arrow service and originally had Maroon side boards and in 1956 they were repainted green until they were withdrawn. From Victoria the container was placed one van from the end of the train so passengers luggage could be bonded at Victoria and upon arrival after the containers had been offloaded from the wagon onto the ship for the Channel crossing and then onto a French wagon to Paris where the passengers could pick up their luggage. On the return journey the container truck was at the locomotive end of the train so when passengers left the Pullmans they then picked up their luggage very close to the exit to the platform. Prices for both kits will be displayed here in the near future.
